Uniforms

Class "A" Ceremonial Dress Uniform
The formal dress ceremonial uniform for all official department functions these include: promotions, new hires, award ceremonies, memorial services, funerals and any other function deemed suitable. Class A uniforms are worn by all ranks and are not permitted to be worn on patrol.
 
The uniform is comprised of the following:
 

Hat - Navy Blue Campaign Cover. Braid dependent on rank

Jacket - Navy Blue 4 pocket ASU style jacket

Shirt - Light blue shirt worn under jacket. Tie to be worn if jacket is not on. White shirts are authorized for Supervisors and LOD funerals if the fallen officer was from the SCSD. Sergent's and above must wear a white shirt in lieu of the Light Blue shirt

Pants - Black straight legged trousers with black braid

Shoes - High Gloss low cut uniform shoe

Gloves - White cotton gloves. 

Insignia - Department Patches are worn on shoulders. Gold SCSD badge on collar. The department badge is to be worn on the left breast, with the nameplate on the right breast. Enlisted rank to be worn on both arms. Service hashmarks to be worn on left arm. Commissioned ranks to be worn on shoulder straps. 

 

 

 

Class "B" Patrol Dress Uniform
The class B uniform is to be considered the general patrol uniform of ERT Police Department. This uniform is required to be worn 3 days out of the week. This uniform is used by all ranks. This uniform is required to be worn by any officer assigned to station house duty and any media appearance.
 
The uniform is comprised of the following:

Hat - Navy blue campaign hat with silver braid for deputies and corporals, Gold for supervisors

Shirt: - A Light Blue long or short sleeve button up uniform blouse will be worn for all ranks A black clip on tie must be worn with the long sleeve shirt at all times, the tie will be secured to the shirt by a plain silver tie clip. A name tag is to be worn with this uniform. Sergent's and above must wear a white shirt in lieu of the light blue shirt

Pants - The class B uniform is authorized either a black straight legged trousers with black braid or black cargo pants.

Shoes - 6" or 8" black leather boots are authorized for wear with the class B uniform. 

Duty Belt-  A plain black leather duty belt will be worn while on duty with at minimum a standard patrol officers compliment of equipment, all equipment holders/holsters will be in black leather or black. 

Gloves - Black leather or Kevlar gloves may be worn as need

Insignia - Department Patches are worn on shoulders with standard "SCSD" collar brass. The badge is worn on the left breast of the outermost garment while awards and the nameplate are worn on the right breast of the outermost garment.

Cold weather Equipment - A navy blue Blauer 3 season jacket or a navy blue turtleneck may be worn with the button up shirt without tie or jacket.

 
Class "C" Dress Down Patrol Uniform
The Class C uniform is the "dress down" version of the patrol uniform. It can be worn up to 2 days of the week in lieu of the Class B uniform. Sergeants and above cannot wear the class C uniform. Probationary police officers and police cadets cannot wear the class C uniform.
 
The uniform is comprised of the following:
 

Hat: Navy Blue baseball cap with "Shiloh County Sheriff's department" In gold and patch On front. Badge number in gold on rear of hat.

 

Shirt: The class C uniform is authorized a Light Blue long sleeve or short sleeve department polo shirt with "Shiloh County Sheriff" written on the back in Silver Scotchlite reflective lettering.

Pants: The class C uniform is authorized to be work with Dark Blue cargo pants.

Shoes: 6" or 8" black leather boots.

Duty Belt: The class C uniform is to be worn with a plain black nylon duty belt which will be worn while on duty with at minimum a standard patrol officers compliment of equipment, all equipment holders/holsters will be in matte black plastic or black nylon. 

 

Ballistic Vest - Along with the standard ballistic vest that is worn under the officer's blouse/shirt, a Navy exterior ballistic vest is authorized to be worn with the class C uniform, this vest will assist in carrying the officers compliment of gear in a pre-arranged set up. The rear of the vest will read "Shiloh County Sheriff" in silver Scotchlite reflective material for patrol and tactical purposes.

 

Gloves: Black leather or Kevlar gloves may be worn as need.

Insignia: Department patches are worn on the shoulders and sewn on collar tabs that read "ERT PD". An embroidered sewn on badge will be worn on the left breast while a embroidered name tape worn will be worn on the right side.

Cold weather Equipment: A navy blue Blauer 3 season jacket or a navy blue turtleneck may be worn with department polo shirt without a jacket. (Same as Class B uniform).

 

Class "D" Special Operations Uniform
The class D uniform is worn by members of the department assigned to select specialized units. Officers assigned to these units are not required to wear class b uniforms for regular duties, instead they are allowed to wear and utilize the class D in place of the class B uniform.
 
The only units currently authorized the class D uniform are those that fall under the K9 and SWAT units. Other units may be authorized to wear the class D uniform on a situational basis. 
 
The uniform is comprised of the following:

 

Shirt - Navy blue BDU long sleeve shirt. Shirt will have embroidered badge on the right side.

 

Pants - Navy Blue cargo (5.11 Tactical Pants) or tactical style pants (Crye Precision G3 All Weather Combat Pant) will be worn with the class D uniform. A black riggers belt is to be worn with pants at all times. 

 

Shoes - Black 6" or 8" leather or suede boots are authorized for wear with the class D uniform. 

 

Duty Belt - A black nylon duty belt or a black battle belt style duty belt will be worn while on duty with at minimum a standard patrol officers compliment of equipment (unless ballistic vest is worn), all equipment holders/holsters will be in black nylon or matte black plastic. Additionally a thigh holster and drop leg gear panel are authorized for use with the class D uniform. 

 

Gloves - Black kevlar protective gloves will be worn with the Class D uniform. 

 

Ballistic Vest - Along with the standard ballistic vest that is worn under the officer's blouse/shirt, a black exterior ballistic vest is authorized to be worn with the class D uniform, this vest will assist in carrying the officers compliment of gear in a pre-arranged set up. The rear of the vest will read "ERT Police" in silver Scotchlite reflective material for patrol and tactical purposes. 

 

Ballistic Helmet - A black ballistic/tactical helmet is authorized for usage by all SOD units, this helmet will be a black Team Wendy EXFIL ballistic helmet with the following accessories: Wilcox L4 G21M NVG mount with retention lanyard, CORE HEL-STAR 6 IFF light, SureFire HL1-C-TN Helmet light (W/R/IR), Liberator III ITJCS - TACP/JTAC Secure Dual-Comm Tactical Headset with Integrated Digital Hearing Protection with Exfil Peltor adapter, and Smith Optics Lopro Regulator Goggles.

 

Insignia - The class D uniform will support subdued department patches that are worn on shoulders and sewn on collar tabs that read "SCSD", with a sewn on embroidered badge on the left breast along with an embroidered name tape worn on right breast in the following formation "J. DOE".

 

Cold Weather Gear - A Navy Blue Blauer 3 season Jacket is authorized for cold weather wear along with a Black turtleneck sweater, which may be worn with the long or short sleeve polo without the Blauer 3 season jacket. Furthermore, a black Underarmor cold weather undershirt with "SCPD" embroidered on the collar along with black gortex wet weather pants and top are authorized for wear with the class D uniform.

 

 

Class "T " Traffic Uniform

The class T uniform is worn by all members permanently assigned to the Traffic division. Officers assigned to Traffic must wear this uniform in lieu of the class B and class C uniform. When assigned to the traffic division for the first time the deputy is given a stipend of $1200 to cover the purchase and maintenance of new uniforms

 

Hat - Navy Blue campaign hat with gold braid. When assigned to motorcycle duties a black and white open faced helmet is required to be worn.

Shirt: - A Light Blue long or short sleeve button up uniform blouse will be worn for all ranks A black clip on tie must be worn with the long sleeve shirt at all times, the tie will be secured to the shirt by a plain silver tie clip. A name tag is to be worn with this uniform. Sergent's and above must wear a white shirt in lieu of the black shirt

Pants - Navy Blue breeches with a silver reflective braid are worn in place of trousers.

Shoes - 17" black leather motorcycle boots if assigned to a motorcycle and optional if assigned to an automobile. 6" or 8" black leather boots are required otherwise

Duty Belt-  A plain black leather duty belt will be worn while on duty with at minimum a standard patrol officers compliment of equipment, all equipment holders/holsters will be in black leather.

Gloves - Black leather or Kevlar gloves may be worn as need

Insignia - Department Patches are worn on shoulders with standard "SCSD" collar brass. The badge is worn on the left breast of the outermost garment while awards and the nameplate are worn on the right breast of the outermost garment. If the member has successfully completed motor training they are authorized to wear a gold wing and wheels pin above there nameplate.

Cold weather Equipment - A black leather jacket (Taylor leather Pittsburgh) is worn over the Light BLue long sleeve Light Blue up shirt. A black turtleneck may be worn underneath the button up shirt.

 

 

Honor Guard Uniform

 

Members assigned to the honor guard detail are issued this uniform. It is maintained by the department. Flag holders are also supplied as needed

 

Hat - Navy blue Campaign Cover. Braid dependent on rank

Jacket - Navy Blue high collar single breasted with white belt

Shirt - Light blue shirt worn under jacket. Tie to be worn if jacket is not on. Sergent's and above must wear a white shirt in lieu of the light blue shirt

Pants - Black straight legged trousers with black braid

Shoes - High Gloss low cut uniform shoe

Duty Belt - Not worn with this uniform. White leather belt worn, if appropriate, holster may be worn on belt. 

Gloves - White cotton gloves. 

Insignia - Department Patches are worn on shoulders. Gold SCSD badge on collar. The department badge is to be worn on the left breast, with the nameplate on the right breast. Enlisted rank and service hashmarks to be worn on left arm. Commissioned ranks to be worn on shoulder straps.

 

 

Academy Uniform

The academy uniform is worn by cadets who are attending the sheriff's academy. It is to be worn at all non PE activity during the the academy

 

Hat - Black garrison cap

Shirt: - A Gray long or short sleeve button up uniform shirt. A black clip on tie must be worn with the long sleeve shirt at all times, the tie will be secured to the shirt by a plain silver tie clip. A name tag is to be worn with this uniform.

Pants - The uniform is a black straight legged trousers with black braid.

Shoes - 6" or 8" boots are authorized for wear with the class B uniform.

Insignia - Department Patche is worn on left shoulder. Academy patch is worn on the right shoulder. with standard "SCSD" collar brass. the nameplate are worn on is right breast of the outermost garment.

Cold weather Equipment - A black drab Blauer 3 season jacket or a black turtleneck may be worn with the button up shirt without tie or jacket.

 
Plain Clothes
Officers assigned to plainclothes duty have freedom in choosing appropriate clothing for the assignment.  The below section applies to detectives not assigned to undercover duties
 
The uniform is comprised of the following: 


Winter Guidelines - Suit and tie must be worn when in public, the jacket may be removed when in police department facilities. A button up open collared shirt may be worn on dress down days or if the detective is doing office work.

Summer Guidelines - Shirt and tie must be worn when in public jacket optional. Polo shirt and slacks may be worn on dress down days or if the detective is doing office work.

Fieldwork Guidelines - Long or short sleeve polo shirt and dark colored or khaki cargo pants are authorized if the detective is involved in field work where a suit and tie would not be appropriate.

On Call Guidelines - Long or short sleeve polo shirt and khakis may be worn if detective is on call and is required to respond from home.

Outerwear: A 5.11 black Tactical Response Raid jacket or raid vest must be worn on raids and any other situation where friendly fire may be an issue or where officers might need to be quickly identified such as canvasses, large scale incidents, field work, etc.

 

Cold Weather: Overcoat may be worn in inclement weather.

General guidelines: Badge must be worn on the outermost layer on or above the waist. If the detective is required to be in uniform they must wear a class B uniform unless assigned to an SOD section, then the class D uniform is authorized.
 

Required Equipment List:
Uniformed Officers: 
The following list of gear is the minimum an officer is to carry on their persons during shift operations, this list can be expanded with approval by a shift supervisor. This list will be split into three sections, standard gear, non-lethal force options, and miscellaneous gear. 
 
Standard Gear:
- Department issued Radio (Motorola APX 7000L with optional radio parasail and ear piece) 

- Vievu LE3 body camera
- Flashlight, full-sized
- Handcuffs, double locking x2
- Sidearm, department issue or personal purchase with department issued SureFire X300 Weaponlight
- Pistol Magazines x2 (minimum)
- Gloves, leather or kevlar

Non-lethal Force Gear:
- ASP 21" or 26" expandable baton (Officer's Choice)
- Pepper/OC spray
- TASER X2 (Upon Passing Taser Certification)

Misc Gear:
- Trauma Kit
- Nitrile or Latex gloves x 2 pairs (minimum)
- Pocket knife
- Flashlight, mini (backup)
 
Plainclothes Officers:
The following list of gear is the minimum an officer is to carry on their persons during shift operations, this list can be expanded with approval by a shift supervisor. This list will be split into three sections, standard gear, non-lethal force options, and miscellaneous gear. 
 
Standard Gear:
- Department issued Radio (Vertex Standard EVX-539 with belt clip)
- Flashlight, compact
- Handcuffs, double locking x2
- Sidearm, department issue or personal purchase
- Pistol Magazines x2 (minimum)

Non-lethal Force Gear:
- ASP 12 or 16 Inch Expandable Baton
- Pepper/OC spray
 
Misc Gear:
- Nitrile or Latex gloves x 2 pairs (minimum)
- Pocket knife

Civilian Uniforms

 

 

General Services Officer

General service officers are peace officers who work in. There primary duty is to provide security for county buildings and county level courts . In addition to this they also maintain order and tend to prisoners in the SCSD station cells . They can also serve papers, write parking summonses and transport evidence. Generally GSOs are unarmed but if the GSO meets certain training requirements they can carry on duty. Many GSO's use there experience here as a jumping off point for a career in law enforcment

 

 

Hat - Black SCSD baseball cap

Shirt - Light blue long or short sleeve button up shirt. A black clip on tie must be worn with the long sleeve shirt at all times, the tie will be secured to the shirt by a plain silver tie clip. A name tag is to be worn with this uniform.

Pants - Black straight legged trousers with black braid or black cargo pants

Shoes - 6" or 8" boots are authorized for wear with the class B uniform

Duty Belt - .A plain black leather duty belt will be worn while on duty with at minimum all equipment holders will be in black leather

Insignia - Department patches with "General Services" rockers are worn on both sleeves. The badge is worn on the left breast of the outermost garment while awards and the nameplate are worn on the right breast of the outermost garment

 

Cold weather Equipment - A black  Blauer 3 season jacket or a black turtleneck may be worn with the button up shirt without tie or jacket

 

Equipment - GSO's are equipped with an ASP and OC in addition to a radio and handcuffs. After serving for a year and taking firearms training at the county public safety academy they can qualify to carry while on duty When working in a correctional setting they do not carry any weapons

 

 

 

Building/Electronics Maintenance

 

Hat - Black SCSD baseball cap

Shirt - A black long or short sleeve polo. "SCSD maintenance" is written on the back in silver scotchlite

Pants - Black or khaki cargo pants

Shoes - Black non slip footwear is to be worn.

Insignia - Name tape in silver font on right side. SCSD maintenance in silver font on left side. Department patches with "Support Services" Rockers are worn. Department ID card must be worn on the outermost layer when in department facilities

 

Cold weather equipment - Black job shirt with "SCSD maintenance" is written on the back in silver scotchlite

 

 

 

Fleet services division

 

SCSD Fleet services maintain the SCSD fleet. In addition to working in the county garage there is a small PM shop at the station in Fort Shannon. They operate a roadside repair truck and 3 two trucks for department vehicles and impounded vehicles. The SCSD tow units do not tow for parking violations unless its part of large scale event or state of emergency, All mechanics are cross trained as tow truck operators.

Hat - Black SCSD baseball cap

Shirt - Black mechanics shirt with "SCSD Fleet" On the back in silver scotch lite. With reflective tape below that.

Pants - Black cargo pants. Reflective tape is worn in the lower pant legs.

Shoes - Black non slip footwear is to be worn.

Insignia - Name tape in silver font on right side. SCSD maintenance in silver font on left side. Department patches with "Support Services" Rockers are worn. Department ID card must be worn on the outermost layer when in department facilites

 

Cold weather equipment - Black job shirt with "SCSD Fleet" is written on the back in silver scotchlite. When performing tow operations this is replaced by a high vis lime green jacket with SCSD Fleet on the back in silver scotchlite
