Truck Descriptions

Standard Companies

Engines: Engines are responsible for fire attack.  Engines will secure a water supply and will also stretch an attack line and apply water on the fire.  The last engine is also responsible for assisting special service units.

Ladders: Ladder crews are responsible for ventilation.  If the second due ladder company is not needed to assist with ventilation, then they will assist special service units.

Special Service Units

Rescues: Rescues are responsible for search and rescue operations as well as RIT operations on a fire scene.  Rescue companies also carry equipment needed for technical rescue operations.  All fireground operations will be conducted with a hose line from either a squad company or an engine company.

Squads: Squads are primarily responsible for search and rescue operations on fire scenes.  When arriving after a rescue company, they may be assigned to RIT operations with the help of a rescue, truck, or ladder company.  Squads can also conduct technical rescue operations.  All squad fireground operations will be conducted with a hose line.

Trucks: Trucks have many the same responsibilities as ladder companies on fires.  They may also pair up with a squad or with an engine to perform RIT or search and rescue operations.  Trucks can also conduct technical rescue operations.  All truck fireground operations will be conducted with a hose line.

"You might be a firefighter if your entire wardrobe is t-shirts your friends gave you from their

departments for your birthday, Christmas, anniversary, etc."

-Unknown

"If Prometheus was worthy of the wrath of heaven for kindling the first fire upon earth, how

ought all the gods honor the men who make it their professional business to put it out?"

- John Godfrey Saxe
