When it rains, it pours.  Large brush fire today, in excess of 75 acres burned.  Pics will come later.

Unless anyone objects to this or otherwise would like to call abuse of administrator power, I changed the name of this topic from "Active Incidents" to "Significant Incidents" as more often than not, what we are posting are past incidents. Now with the title being "Significant", they can be past or present.

Had my first job with the fire department today which ended up being a fire. First job and first fire at the same time. I had actually stopped by the firehouse after work to talk with the chief about something and get the last of whatever I need. Afterwards one of the paid guys invited out on the second due engine with him to get fuel and in the meantime he'd take me somewhere to test the hoses/teach me how to use it. On our way to get fuel, spotted smoke coming from behind a supermarket. Drove down a little further when we saw smoke and fire coming from the residence behind the store. He called it in, went around the block and pulled up. Since it was just the two of us, and I'm obviously not a firefighter, he put me to work as much as he could for the 3 to 4 minutes until the [Usually] first due engine and ladder got there. So he had me connect the supply line to a hydrant and charge that, then since we couldn't do anything interior because of trained manpower, he had me back him up on an attack line from the exterior.

Afterwords I stuck around the second arriving engine and helped with overhaul and stayed for a little bit of the investigation. From there we ended up on a medical at a car accident in front of said supermarket around the block then finally got home now.

Didn't do much, but it was great experience, especially being my first job there. Learned a lot.

Sounds like a nice first call.  I haven't really "worked" on a fire for say, but I have been on my first call I guess.  I helped out with overhaul on a huge apartment fire--about 19 departments were onscene.  For a "first call," mine's not that bad either I guess haha.

I was working with my dad (construction) on Monday and we got a reported structure fire about 5 houses down so we went. It was a dryer fire with possible extension in the basement and a smoke situation, the residents had already pulled the dryer up, out, and into the backyard. We got some tools off of our own truck and opened it up. Turned out the motor that spins the drum heated up the data sheet inside and caught it. We were on scene for about 10 minutes and then we cleared. We held with one engine.

Possible Anthrax across the street right now.  Two cops, one engine, one chief, are on the scene with EMS requested.

"The situation has been resolved."

how could it be resolved if it is connected to Anthrax? The Feds would be involved along with the DoD and the CDC if it was anthrax, it is way beyond local forces.

It was not anthrax.  It was a gritty white powder that we believe that it was used to stop letters from sticking to itself.  The letter was sent from Washington, but there was not enough of the substance to test.  Plus, one of our cops decided to grab it and show us that he "had it clenched tightly in his hand".
