FT. SHANNON- Shiloh County firefighters responded to a two alarm apartment fire on Lyons Avenue this afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 267 Lyons Avenue at approximately 4:15 for a reported fire in an apartment. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, firefighters saw smoke billowing from three windows and flames in one. The first arriving fire truck called for a second alarm immediately.
Firefighters went to the burning apartment, and the adjacent apartment where a victim was found. Paramedics took the injured man to Shiloh County Hospital.
SCFD Division Chief Hall, the incident commander, praised the first fire trucks to arrive. He said, “The fire was contained to two apartments, thanks to the great job by the first arriving units. The crews performed their jobs like clockwork. Without their efforts, the fire would not have been extinguished so quickly and efficiently.”
All residents were evacuated from the six story building as a precaution. The Red Cross was summoned by the fire department to assist the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have originated in the kitchen of one apartment, according to SCFD arson investigations.
